Pharmacist Spotlight: Pooja Raval, PharmD

Tell us a bit about your career and what you do now.

By day, I am still a pharmacist who works in the pharmaceutical industry as an associate director of medical affairs, but I do have a creative passion for creating decor and gifts. Over the years, I’ve volunteered at my temple and helped create decorations for events and festivals. I’ve learned so many tips and tricks, but my passion has taken that creativity further and led me to launch a small business called Studio Raval Custom Engravings, where we focus on creating personalized gifts and home decor.

How has entrepreneurship impacted your perspective on pharmacy?

Entrepreneurship has shown me that the opportunities are endless. All you have to do is take the chance and embrace the change. One of the biggest things that entrepreneurship has taught me is to put yourself and your ideas out there. You never know who else is listening and how you can collaborate further. Similarly, in pharmacy there is always room for growth and development. We are always focused on helping our patients, but we can only do that when we’re willing to put ourselves and our ideas out there. It is the key to collaboration and the key to solving some of the greatest challenges we face in health care these days.

How could greater entrepreneurship among pharmacists benefit the profession?

Entrepreneurship helps open doors through networking. Although we have networking events as pharmacists, it truly just stays within our own industry. But through entrepreneurship, we can expand beyond our industry and learn about the different perspectives that others have. By doing so, we can bring back those valuable insights to our roles as pharmacists and incorporate more compassion into our day-to-day lives.
