Advice for Beginning Independent Pharmacists

Walter Wong, PharmD, owner of Green Valley Pharmacy in Rancho Cucamongo, CA speaks to Pharmacy Times with advice for aspiring independent pharmacy owners.

Walter Wong, PharmD: So, as a pharmacist, you need to have heart and believe in what you do. If you don’t believe in what you do, your patients are not going to feel empowered, your staff is not going to be empowered, so you won’t be able to achieve what you want to achieve. And also being genuine—people can see right through you. So I think those are the important qualities to being a pharmacist. As a business owner, I think pharmacists tend to do better when you find a niche, either to introduce a new service or to perfect an existing service, and to be sure to be able to deliver that service that you promised. That’s important.
