Winn-Dixie to Offer Flu Vaccinations

Flu vaccinations are now available in all Winn-Dixie in-store pharmacies to help prepare patients for the 2011-2012flu season. Patients can get the flu vaccine for the discounted rate of $24.99 when purchased using their Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people get a flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available in their community,” said John Fegan, vice president of pharmacy for Winn-Dixie. “With the flu season approaching, our skilled and knowledgeable pharmacists are now able to offer guests quick and easy options to receive the flu vaccine while grocery shopping — either on-the-go or by appointment. This is one of many benefits people will find at their neighborhood Winn-Dixie.”

Patients can obtain a flu shot in any Winn-Dixie in-store pharmacy on a “walk-in” basis or can schedule an appointment online at www.winndixie.com/pharmacy.

Winn-Dixie pharmacies will offer a regular flu shot approved for people ages 6 months and older and a high-dose flu shot approved for people 65 and older. Certain age restrictions may apply in some states regarding pharmacist administration of vaccinations. Guests are encouraged to see their neighborhood Winn-Dixie pharmacist for details.

According to the CDC, the best method of protection against the flu is vaccination. It is recommended that all people age six months and older receive a flu vaccination every year. In addition, Winn-Dixie pharmacists recommend washing your hands frequently; wiping down telephones, remote controls, and door knobs with disinfectant; and keeping tissues handy to stop the spread of viruses.
