PRESS RELEASE
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (September 26, 2014) — Members of 37 pharmacy organizations across the globe will take to Twitter to participate in the second annual #Pharmacist tweet-a-thon on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, to highlight the positive impact that pharmacists have on their patients, communities, and the health care industry.
On Thursday, Oct. 2, pharmacists around the world will tweet about the actions they have taken or are taking to help patients, doctors, other health care providers, and their communities using the hashtag #Pharmacist. Last year, more than 7,100 tweets with the hashtag #Pharmacist were sent during the inaugural tweet-a-thon on Oct. 3, 2013, and #Pharmacist was the No. 1 trending health care hashtag that day.
“Last year, we saw tweets from all over the world describing the impact that pharmacists have on their patients’ everyday lives. From preventing potentially adverse reactions, to teaching newly diagnosed diabetic patients how to use their glucose monitor, to administering 40 flu shots in three hours — last year’s stories were diverse and inspiring. Pharmacists in different practice settings not only fill prescriptions, they counsel patients, consult with physicians, lower health care costs, and help patients live healthier lifestyles. As one of the most accessible health care providers, pharmacists have a unique story to tell and we hope they will take a moment or two on Oct. 2 to share their positive stories on Twitter,” said the participating organizations.
To date, the following pharmacy organizations have confirmed their participation in the global #Pharmacist tweet-a-thon (Twitter handles listed in parentheses):
