Jennifer M. Malinowski, PharmD, RPh, Associate Professor, Pharmacy Practice, Wilkes University School of Pharmacy
Despite the fact that women of all races and ethnicities are at risk for developing osteoporosis, the condition is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Pharmacists have a unique opportunity to address this need. This case study activity is designed to provide pharmacists with an update on screening methods, and current nonpharmacologic and over-the-counter treatment options for patients at risk for and those diagnosed with postmenopausal osteoporosis. It will also discuss the incidence, prevalence, and burden of postmenopausal osteoporosis, along with risk factors for the development of osteoporosis.
