NaviHealth, a Cardinal Health company, has entered into an agreement to acquire Curaspan Health Group, a privately held leading provider of care transition tools for hospitals and post-acute healthcare providers.
PRESS RELEASE Nashville, TN—April 14, 2016—naviHealth Inc., a Cardinal Health company, has entered into an agreement to acquire Curaspan Health Group Inc., a privately held leading provider of care transition tools for hospitals and post-acute healthcare providers. The transaction, which is conditioned on regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, is expected to close before the end of June 2016.
Curaspan pioneered software designed to streamline patient progression through the healthcare continuum more than 15 years ago, and today, approximately 20 percent of all acute care hospital discharges in the U.S. rely on the company’s platform to transition smoothly into post-acute care. Complementing electronic medical records and clinical workflows, Curaspan creates an integrated communication hub for otherwise siloed providers, enabling seamless patient referrals between sites of care and providing efficiencies to clinicians seeking a better discharge experience for their patients.
“Curaspan has built a leading technology solution for transitioning patients throughout the continuum of care,” said Clay Richards, CEO of naviHealth. “As we bridge the gaps among people, technology, and processes, naviHealth’s primary goal is to enable the highest quality of care for patients across all stages of their post-acute care journey. Healthcare’s evolving reimbursement environment has accelerated the need for clinicians to seek effective tools for managing patients in a value-based care world, and we believe that the combination of our existing clinical decision support tools and clinical analytics with Curaspan’s leading care transitions platform and post-acute network will create a compelling customer offering.”
The combination of the Curaspan platform with naviHealth’s existing services and technologies is an important step toward enhancing the care experience for patients and providers, forging better connections so the transition of care can focus on the best patient experience.
“The combination of Curaspan and naviHealth products and services will provide our customers with a comprehensive suite of solutions designed to meet many of their emerging workflow and value-based care needs,” said Thomas R. Ferry, president and CEO of Curaspan. “No other healthcare company will be able to match the network and the range of products and services we will offer.”
Curaspan is currently installed in over 600 hospitals and has more than 8,000 post-discharge customers including skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, long-term acute care hospitals, dialysis centers, durable medical equipment distributors, hospice providers, transportation companies and other post-acute care organizations to receive patient information and referrals.
“Cardinal Health made the strategic decision to enter the post-acute space, because we know that in so many ways it is the future of healthcare. Our scope, scale and breadth combined with naviHealth’s leading post-acute care management, RightCare’s proven clinical decision support software, and Curaspan’s leading technology solution for patient care transitions supports a leading footprint in healthcare’s post-acute space,” said Michael B. Petras Jr., president, Cardinal Health Post-Acute Solutions.
