Healthcare Leaders Honored During ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting

Four healthcare practitioners have been recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) with different leadership awards. The honorees were presented with the awards during specific ceremonies at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in Las Vegas.

Four health care practitioners have been recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) with different leadership awards. The honorees were presented with the awards during specific ceremonies at the ASHP 54th Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition in Las Vegas.

Each award celebrates individuals who have made excellent contributions in the pharmacy discipline throughout different healthcare environments.

"Each of our esteemed honorees has made contributions that have significantly improved the lives of patients and advanced healthcare in meaningful ways," said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD, ScD (Hon.), FASHP in a prepared statement. "ASHP applauds the exceptional initiative, commitment, and vision demonstrated by this impressive group of leaders."

The following winners were recognized:

  • ASHP Board of Directors Award of Honor: Arjun Srinivasan, MD, CAPT, US Public Health Service (USPHS), Associate Director for Healthcare-Associated Infection Prevention Programs, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Disease, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta. This award recognizes individuals outside the pharmacy discipline who have made extraordinary national or worldwide contributions to the health field.
  • ASHP Board of Directors Distinguished Leadership Award: RADM (retired) Pamela Schweitzer, PharmD, BCACP, Assistant Surgeon General and 10th Chief Pharmacist Officer, USPHS. This award recognizes contributions to excellence in pharmacy practice leadership in acute and ambulatory care settings.
  • ASHP Board of Directors Donald E. Francke Medal: Albert I. Wertheimer, BS Pharm, PhD, MBA, Professor, Nova Southeastern University, College of Pharmacy, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. This award honors pharmacists who have made significant international contributions to advance pharmacy practice.
  • ASHP-Association of Black Health-System Pharmacists Joint Leadership Award: John E. Clark, PharmD, FASHP, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapeutics and Clinical Research and Director of Experiential Education and Pharmacy Residency Programs at the University of South Florida (USF) College of Pharmacy in Tampa, Fla. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in efforts to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare.
