As part of American Pharmacist Month, Pharmacy Times is asking experts what they believe the value of the pharmacist is. Bri Morris, PharmD, senior director of Education and the Long-Term Care Division at the National Community Pharmacists Association, discusses how pharmacists are local health care providers that look out and take care of their communities.

Bri Morris: The value of a pharmacist is a local health care provider in their community that's able to support the needs of those patients. This may be longer than than what you're looking for.

I'm originally from a small town in Arkansas, and my community pharmacist provides vaccines to the community. She goes to the critical access hospital and is the pharmacist over there, keeping the pharmacy and the hospital up and going during the day. She delivers to patients within a 20 mile radius, and that community would be lost without that pharmacy. It's a connector in a real health care access point for communities all across the country.
