Ray Tancredi, RPh, MBA, Vice President Specialty Pharmacy Development, Walgreens; Cheryl Allen, BS Pharm, MBA, Vice President, Industry Relations, Diplomat Pharmacy Inc.; Nicholas Karalis, RPh, Elwyn Pharmacy Group; Stacey Ness, PharmD, RPh*, Director, Specialty Clinical Services, Managed Healthcare Associates; Renee Rayburg, RPh, Senior Director, Clinical Consulting, Artemetrx

According to Ness, quality metrics can be evaluated through the use of accreditation standards with an increasing emphasis on the ability to benchmark against other industry competitors to compare and judge performance. Karalis agreed that this comparison among competitors will raise the standards for industry performance, with the ultimate determination of quality determined by patient outcomes.

Additionally, as superior data analytics are introduced, enhanced adherence evaluation and monitoring will also be included in those metrics, Karalis noted. As a result, stakeholders throughout specialty pharmacy will not only be able to fill prescriptions and manage side effects, but also be able to actually see patient outcomes in order to raise the bar for services that are provided throughout the industry.
