Indication: Preparation H is used to temporarily relieve swelling, burning, pain, and itching caused by hemorrhoids.

Insight:

  • Preparation H contains phenylephrine, which belongs to a class of drugs known as sympathomimetic amines.
  • It works by temporarily narrowing the blood vessels in the area, which decreases swelling and discomfort.
  • Directions: Use Preparation H up to 4 times daily, usually in the morning and bedtime, after each bowel movement, or as directed by a physician.
  • If symptoms do not improve within 7 days, if bleeding/worsening pain occurs, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, consult a physician promptly.
  • Active Ingredients: Mineral oil - 14.0 % (protectant), petrolatum - 74.9 % (protectant), phenylephrine HCL - 0.25 % (vasoconstrictor)
  • Adverse events include fast/irregular heartbeat, pounding headache, nervousness, shakiness (tremor), and trouble sleeping.
