AstraZeneca Launches Diabetes Can Break Your Heart Campaign for World Diabetes Day

In honor of World Diabetes Day, AstraZeneca has launched the campaign Diabetes Can Break Your Heart, the national movement aimed to change the trajectory of heart failure in type 2 diabetes.

This campaign is designed to help raise awareness and spark a dialogue between patients with type 2 diabetes and their health care providers about reducing the risk of heart failure. Heart failure is one of the earliest and most frequent cardiac complications for people living with type 2 diabetes, often before a heart attack or stroke occurs.

Diabetes Can Break Your Heart will travel across the United States in 2020 to continue educating communities around the important link between type 2 diabetes and heart failure. National and local advocacy organizations, key community leaders, and the public will be able to come together to empower the diabetes community in finding out more solutions for their health.

The tour will feature different activities to help heighten the awareness of the type 2 diabetes and heart failure connection. The virtual reality experience, Diabetes Heartbreaker, uses technology to spark the sense of urgency around the steps people can take today to help reduce their risk for the future.

A traveling airstream will be featured at each stop on the tour that will offer educational tools and resources and access to policy makers via digital platforms. Those living with type 2 diabetes and/or heart failure and their loved ones will have the opportunity to share their stories throughout the campaign.

Organizations such as the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), and the Association of Black Cardiologists, Inc. (ABC) have joined the campaign to spread the message to more communities nationwide.
