PRESS RELEASE
2/19/2014-- The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) is introducing a new app based on its popular reference Pediatric Injectable Drugs, widely known as the “Teddy Bear Book.” The new Teddy Bear App provides a quick-reference bedside resource for pharmacists and health care practitioners.
For more than two decades, Pediatric Injectable Drugs (The Teddy Bear Book) has served an important and continuing need for reliable evidence-based information specific to pediatric injectable drugs. The book, which covers neonates through adolescents, includes age-specific dosing and administration guidelines and is one of the most comprehensive resources on pediatric drug information.
The new app, now in the app store for iOS and coming soon for Android devices, is available for both individual and institutional use. A limited download version of the app is available for practitioners who wish to try it out to see basic information such as brand names, medication error potential, contraindications, and warnings for each drug monograph.
The premium version includes additional information such as infusion-related cautions, age-specific dosing, dosage adjustment for organ dysfunction, maximum dosage, additives, suitable diluents, maximum concentrations, preparation and delivery, I.V. push, intermittent infusion, continuous infusion, other routes of administration, and comments.
App users can make notes and highlights within the monographs and mark monographs for easy reference. Push notifications ensure that users have the most up-to-date information.
With an institutional account, anyone within the health care facility can use the app as long as they are within IP range.
