PRESS RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC — The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) just released Motivational Interviewing for Health Care Professionals: A Sensible Approach. The book presents a new way of teaching the theory and practice of motivational interviewing to health care professionals.
Motivational interviewing has been shown to improve treatment adherence and outcomes, promote behavior change, improve patient satisfaction with care and increase retention rates in complex case management, according to authors Bruce A. Berger, PhD, and William A. Villaume, PhD. The book provides a practical, step-by-step approach for using motivational interviewing skills and tools in all practice settings. To illustrate the use and application of motivational interviewing, the book presents case studies and multiple dialogues between health care professionals and patients.
Berger and Villaume are Professors Emeritus, Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy and co-developers of comMIt (Comprehensive Motivational Interviewing Training). The authors have years of experience in research and teaching patient communication and motivational interviewing.
