Cultural competence should be thought in terms of being cognizant that there are differences in every single patient.
Jacinda C. Abdul-Mutakabbir aka “JAM”, PharmD, MPH, AAHIVP, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy, spoke to Pharmacy Times about her session at McKesson ideaShare 2022 titled "Cultural Competence in Pharmacy Practice."
JAM: I think when I think about cultural competence and being a pharmacy team member, I really think about it in terms of being cognizant that there are differences in every single patient. And when you're approached with the patient, really acknowledging the importance of treating that patient, per their own cultural background, so keeping that in mind and keeping that at the forefront of our minds as we work hard to deliver on equitable health care.
