The National Association of ChainDrug Stores member Kerr Drug Inc andSureScripts were recent recipients ofthe Pinnacle Award. Kerr Drug receivedthe award for its Clinical Services program(KDICS). SureScripts was honoredfor its participation in the creation ofKatrinaHealth.org.
The KDICS team of clinical pharmacistswho practice in Kerr Health CareCenters includes residency-trainedpharmacists with advanced training andcertification in preventive health careprograms for such disease states as diabetes,hypertension, and asthma.
KatrinaHealth.org provided authorizedpharmacists and physicians withon-line access to prescription medicationrecords of individuals affected bylast year's Gulf Coast hurricane.SureScripts worked closely with variouschain pharmacies to pool medication historyinformation for residents in the 192affected zip codes into a central repositoryto help physicians and pharmacistscoordinate care of their patients.
The Pinnacle Awards are sponsoredby the American Pharmacists Associationand are supported by agrant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.The awards recognize the accomplishmentsof individuals, corporations,nonprofit organizations, andother agencies that have had a positiveimpact on the medication-useprocess and the delivery of appropriatemedical care.
