Border Crossings Up Asthma Gamble
Residents living near thebusiest United States-Canada bordercrossing are experiencing acluster of asthma cases. Researcherssaid that residents livingwithin one third of a mile of thePeace Bridge crossing in Buffalo,NY, are 4 times more likely tohave asthma, compared withthose who live >1.25 miles away.
For the study, the University ofBuffalo researchers examinedpatients living along NiagaraStreet, Seneca Street, and Interstate190, all of which serve asaccess roads for the Peace Bridgeand carry major truck traffic. Thecurrent findings, confirmed thefact that public health should bea consideration when transportationpolicies are made.
