Web Site Educates About Bone Health
Osteoporosis is a major public health threat that affects 8 million US women. Because bone loss often happens without symptoms, individuals may not even realize they have the condition. In some cases, osteoporosis goes undiagnosed until bones are so weakenedthat a sudden strain, bump, or fall causes a fracture or collapsed vertebra.
In an effort to educate individuals about osteoporosis, a new Web site?www.BoneBalance.org?has been launched. The Website is sponsored by Roche and GlaxoSmithKline. The site encourages visitors to consider caring for their bones in a way that supportsboth their physical body and way of life. BoneBalance.org gives information about bone health and tips for individuals to achievebalance and wellness in mind, body, and spirit. It discusses the importance of exercise, diet, medical treatment, and lifestyle regimens.Visitors to the site can also sign up for a free monthly BoneBalance Total Wellness newsletter for additional advice and information.
The Web site is divided into 3 health and lifestyle categories:
- Knowing: focuses on being informed and understanding the basics about osteoporosis
- Nurturing: focuses on lifestyle adjustments and caring for the mind, body, and spirit
- Strengthening: encourages participation in active strategies for bone health
