A virtual event was hosted on July 28 by the Economic Club of Washington, DC, on how to immunize Americans as fast as possible upon the release of a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. Quickly vaccinating as many Americans as possible may allow states to open all aspects of the US economy sooner.
The discussion at the virtual event was led by Steven C. Anderson, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) president and CEO, who was recently invited to join the office of Health and Human Services’ new COVID-19 Vaccine Consultation Panel.
During the discussion, Anderson noted that pharmacies and pharmacists were essential to the health and wellbeing of Americans during the pandemic. Specifically, he mentioned that pharmacies across the nation have been working to prepare for the upcoming critical flu vaccination season.
Anderson explained that the process of engaging in such preparation tactics may also help pharmacies more effectively serve as deployment centers once a COVID-19 vaccine is released for distribution. He detailed further that there are government actions that would be beneficial in the empowerment of pharmacies to work with greater efficacy in their service of the health and wellbeing of Americans during the ongoing crisis.
