Webcast: The Growing Role of the Pharmacy Technician

Panel of experts discuss the increasing roles and responsibilities in the pharmacy technician space as integral members of the pharmacy patient care team.

As part of the Pharmacy Times Pharmacy Focus webcast series, a panel of experts discusses the evolution of the role of pharmacy technicians and the growing recognition of their importance in the health care continuum.

The panel included moderator, Mary Bridgeman, PharmD, BCPS, BCGP, clinical professor, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; Jeremy Sasser pharmacy content strategist, National Healthcareer Association; Chelsea Schulze, CPhT, supervisor, Kroger Health Connect, The Kroger Co; Sarah Pope, pharmacy technician, Hilltop Hy-Vee; and Staci Rush, CPhT, clinical pharmacy technician, Hometown Pharmacy.

The panel focused on the exciting developments within the pharmacy technician space and the growing roles and responsibilities of these integral members of the pharmacy patient care team. Among the topics addressed are the role of technicians in flu/COVID immunizations, their role in patient safety and drug monitoring programs, the importance of continuing education and advanced training offerings, and the role of techs in the rising use of telepharmacy.
