Walgreens to Offer Employees Access to Wellness Programs

Walgreens and Take Care Health Systems have partnered with Core Performance to offer corporate wellness services to Take Care Health Systems employer clients and to work jointly to improve employee health and wellness.

Core Performance offers wellness, fitness and nutrition programs developed by Athletes’ Performance, a company that specializes in elite athlete training. Core Performance systems are designed to drive employee engagement and measurable wellness results through the development of personalized plans to change how employees look, feel, and perform at work and in life. Core Performance programs can incorporate several elements such as Web-based instruction and results tracking, onsite fitness centers, and workplace activation through health and wellness coaches with expertise in the Athletes’ Performance methodology.

Peter Hotz, Walgreens group vice president, stated that the affiliation with Core Performance “strengthens our service portfolio by enabling our clients to access and benefit from the expertise and methodology of one of the world’s foremost fitness, nutrition, and performance providers. This comprehensive suite of offerings has the potential to drive a significant return for employers while improving the lives of their workforce.”

According to Fuld & Company research, employer health centers can offer employers immediate savings of 10 to 30% on health care costs. The facilities generate savings by reducing costs for health care services, increasing productivity among the workforce, and improving the overall health and well-being of the employee population.

“When businesses make an investment in the health and well-being of their employees, they’re looking to achieve clinical and measurable results,” said Dan Burns, CEO of Athletes’ Performance. “Core Performance is built on a data driven, outcomes oriented foundation which will enable Take Care Health Systems to further integrate and expand a fitness and wellness platform with its industry-leading onsite pharmacy and health services.”

As part of their agreement, Walgreens has made a minority investment in Core Performance to support cross-platform innovation for Take Care Health Systems and Core Performance. As a growing number of employers look to introduce or expand onsite health and wellness services, Walgreens and Take Care Health Systems “are extremely well positioned to assist employers in meeting their health management objectives,” the company said in a statement.

Take Care Health Systems is the nation’s largest manager of employer health, pharmacy, and fitness centers, with nearly 400 locations throughout the United States.
