New No. 1 Pharmacist Recommended Brands Added for Mom and Baby
Washington, D.C. — June 16, 2015 – U.S. News & World Report, a nationally recognized publisher of health care consumer advice and information, and Pharmacy Times, the pharmacy industry’s No. 1 trusted print and online resource, today released the 2015 Top Recommended Health Products. Consumers and health care professionals can now visit U.S. News Health and www.otcguide.net to see the collective recommendations of thousands of pharmacists for more than 1,100 over-the-counter brands in 168 product categories.
Just in time for summer — the most popular season for births in the U.S. – the 2015 list provides the top-recommended over-the-counter products to keep babies and expectant and new mothers healthy. “Prenatal Vitamins” is one of this year’s new categories, with One A Day Prenatal named as the No. 1 supplement. Returning top-ranked products for mom and baby include:
This year’s overall list includes six new product categories that, along with returning favorites, give consumers pharmacist recommendations for over-the-counter brands they need for year-round health. Clear Care Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution is named the No. 1 recommended product in the new “Contact Lens Solutions, Hydrogen Peroxide—Based” category. Pedialyte is top-recommended in the new “Hydration Support” list. Returning popular categories include:
“Consumers have long turned to U.S. News to seek quality rankings and information when making important health decisions,” said Angela Haupt, Senior Health Editor at U.S. News. “Consumers are flooded with over-the-counter options when visiting their local pharmacies, and Top Recommended Health Products provides a way to easily narrow down which products are most recommended by pharmacists to treat everyday ailments.”
A new mobile version of Pharmacy Times’ 2015 OTC Guide — which allows consumers to search recommendations by symptom, product or category, read key information on drug facts and ingredients and download coupons – makes it easier than ever to access the rankings.
“Today’s health care consumers value the role of the pharmacist, particularly as they navigate the evolving health care landscape,” said Ashley Hennessy Talamo, Publisher at Pharmacy Times. “By partnering with U.S. News, we can deliver consumers the trusted pharmacist advice they value on more over-the-counter products than ever before in formats — print, web and mobile – that are easy to access, search and use again and again, all year long.”
U.S. News and Pharmacy Times began collaborating in 2012 to bring pharmacist recommendations to consumers nationwide. Pharmacy Times evaluates pharmacists’ insights and preferences through an annual research program with HRA—Healthcare Research and Analytics, a consultative health care market research practice. Through the U.S. News website, www.usnews.com, consumers have an easy and searchable way to access the wealth of information produced by Pharmacy Times. U.S. News displays brands that received at least 1 percent of pharmacists' votes, but only awards a "No. 1 Pharmacist Recommended" designation to top-ranked products in each category.
