GSE recently released a case study on its Eyecon system, a prescription validation, counting, and filling solution for high-volume retail pharmacies. The tabletop system was successfully implemented at Lakeview Pharmacy in Racine, Wisconsin, where it has improved the speed and accuracy of dispensing. The unit uses a high-speed camera to capture images of pills at a rate of 5 photos per second, updating the pill count with each image taken and delivering a field-tested accuracy of 99.9%. Its validation mode offers added security, with a barcode scanner that compares prescription labels to stock bottles. The scanner can also be used to count all pills within a stock bottle to keep track of inventory. Records of each transaction can be exported into a spreadsheet, enabling simple reporting and inventory management.
