PRESS RELEASE
STAMFORD, Conn., July 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- RxSafetyMatters.org, an online resource about preventing prescription drug abuse, recently received the 2013 Communicator Award (CA) for best mobile site in the category of Health and Wellness. The CA is the leading international awards program recognizing big ideas in marketing and communications. Founded nearly two decades ago, CA receives over 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest awards of its kind in the world.
Pharmaceutical company Purdue Pharma L.P. developed RxSafetyMatters.org as an online resource to help healthcare professionals, law enforcement personnel, and families and communities learn more about the dangers of illegal trafficking and abuse of prescription medications. The site provides information on programs and resources designed to help deter medication misuse and abuse. The RxSafetyMatters mobile site was introduced in 2012 and enables mobile users to optimize the website on a mobile device such as an iPhone, tablet, or a smartphone with a browser.
"We thought it was important to design this resource to be mobile friendly given the growing number of people who are using handheld devices to search for information online," said Jim Heins, Senior Director, Public Affairs at Purdue Pharma. "The mobile site allows users to easily read, download and share the resources offered on the site."
According to a new report from Walker Sands, mobile websites are not commonplace yet, but are steadily gaining popularity — this is because website traffic is increasingly coming through mobile devices. The percentage of website traffic coming from mobile devices jumped from 17.5% in Q3 2012 to 23.1% in Q4 2012.
