In this clip, Tera Moore, National Program Manager with the VA Pharmacy Benefits Management Clinical Pharmacy Practice Office, discusses the role that psychiatric pharmacist providers play in their patients' mental health management.

Tera Moore, PharmD: So the psychiatric pharmacist provider is really an advanced practice provider, providing that comprehensive medication management across the mental health continuum. That’s not only in your traditional mental health settings, but integrated into primary care teams, general mental health, specialty mental health such as substance use disorders, and also residential programs and in-patient mental health. And part of that comprehensive medication management is not only that prescriptive authority, but really assessment and a holistic approach to the patient with mental health illness. And so that includes, you know, assessment, treatment response, monitoring of those medications, and then additional management as needed moving forward.
