Prescription Program Tackles Adherence, Treatment Outcome Problems

Partnership between Walgreens and EnvisionRx focuses on improving outcomes and adherence in patients with chronic conditions.

A new 90-day pharmacy program launched by EnvisionRx and Walgreens seeks to improve adherence and outcomes for patients suffering from chronic conditions.

Rx90 provides patients with the option to fill 90-day prescriptions at any of the Walgreens pharmacies, totaling at almost 8200 nationwide, for the same price as home delivery through EnvisionPharmacies’ mail service. In addition to availability at Walgreens, the Rx90 program also provides access to 4000 other retail pharmacies.

This is the largest 90-day retail maintenance medication network in the United States, according to a joint press release from EnvisionRx and Walgreens. Patients will also receive integrated care and clinical support from EnvisionRx and Walgreens pharmacists, as well as targeted and disease-specific communications to help change behaviors among patients and improve medication adherence.

“We’re pleased to work with EnvisionRx to create a pharmacy solution that can benefit patients, health plans and employers, and reflects our commitment to provide greater care and service to our customers and patients,” said Alex Gourlay, co-chief operating officer, Walgreens Boots Alliance. “Stronger collaboration with PBMs and health plans is critical in today’s health care environment, to help ensure our patients can continue to get the medications they need at prices they can afford, and with the pharmacy support they depend upon.”

EnvisionRx is able to provide health plans and employers with recommendations on customizing their benefit design, communications, and clinical strategies to meet their own individual needs, by using their own client-specific data and its own research. Furthermore, Rx90 seeks to help plan sponsors control drug spend, and reduce high-cost medical expenses associated with increased visits to physicians, emergency rooms, and extended hospitalization stays.

“In today’s market, plan sponsors need a partner that can truly provide transparency around performance and provide more options for their business and their members,” Frank Sheehy, CEO of EnvisionRxOptions. “Through Rx90, plan sponsors are able to design the prescription drug benefit plan that’s right for them. Coupled with our proprietary technology platform, we can provide better visibility on results and make adjustments faster than other PBM’s, which helps Envision deliver real value.”
