My greatest achievement in pharmacy practice so far has been the establishment of the successful Behavioral Health Clinical Pharmacy Program at the Department of Defense Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany.

My personal philosophy is to genuinely care about the well-being and best interest of other people. I aspire to wake up every day and have a positive outlook.

My greatest achievements in pharmacy are directly related to my work in the mobile clinic. It is both an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to provide quality health care to the medically underserved in my community.

I have both of these quotes hanging up in my office, and I truly try to embody them in all that I do: “Treat others the way you’d like to be treated.” “Throw kindness around like confetti.”
VISION FOR PHARMACY
My vision for the pharmacy profession is for pharmacist-provided services to continue to expand. Additionally, I would like to see more people having access to pharmacist-provided services, particularly those in medically underserved areas.

I have always had an interest in how the human body works, and wanted to be in a profession that works to help people live better lives. My greatest achievements have been serving as the executive intern for the Iowa Pharmacy Association and as a pharmacy policy intern in the Iowa House of Representatives. Through both of these opportunities, I’ve been very fortunate to work under remarkable leadership and feel that our efforts have resulted in great strides for our profession.

In the 1970s, the United States was in turmoil. Many people had little or no resources to care for themselves or family. I believed that I could use my aptitude in math and science to help others by delivering care through pharmacy.

My greatest pharmacy-related achievements include mentoring students and young pharmacists and technicians; helping to lead, create, and implement the Medicare Part D program; and delivering new, forward-thinking rules and regulations for the practice of pharmacy.

My philosophy can be summed up in the belief that it is our job to deliver on the needs and cares of others.

I believe that together, we need to redesign the pharmacy distribution model to one that allows many of our extremely bright, highly trained PharmD colleagues to focus more on the delivery of direct patient care through cognitive skills than on the “do it the same way as we always have” model. I wanted to continue to work in a health-related profession to provide excellent patient care after spending many years in dental hygiene. I have family and friends who are pharmacists and had the opportunity to follow in the pharmacy field.

I was chosen to participate in a pharmacy technician immunization program in 2016 and was one of the first technician immunizers in Idaho. As the technician specialist for our pharmacy, I help keep the daily and monthly tasks running smoothly through inventory control, ordering, scheduling, and training.

Be loyal to yourself and others, be of good moral character, and take time each day to enjoy your surroundings.

While working as a veterinarian technician, I witnessed firsthand the amazing recoveries that animals experienced after being treated with medication, leading me to decide to change career paths.

My greatest achievement has been working with my team to develop a 1-day dispense model, which reduces both medication administration errors and medication waste.
PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY
It is important to approach issues first from the perspective of the patient, then from the perspective of the customer, and finally from our own business needs. This approach generally leads to win-win solutions.
