Pharmacy is on the Move

There was a feeling at the ASHP Summer Meeting that the profession of pharmacy is being propelled forward by collaboration among individual pharmacists and pharmacy organizations.

At the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ (ASHP) Summer Meeting held in Las Vegas from May 31 through June 4, the organization introduced a new logo and tag line, "Pharmacists Advancing Healthcare.” Those present could feel that pharmacy is on the move. I left the meeting feeling encouraged because I sensed that the ASHP leadership now realizes that collaboration between pharmacists in all setting is needed and the same is true for pharmacy organizations.

Paul Abramowitz is the ASHP’s CEO, and I sense that the new direction being taken by the organization is supported and has maybe even been encouraged by him. For example, Abramowitz mentioned in his address to the ASHP House of Delegates that he is working closely with the American Pharmacists Association. When the 2 largest pharmacy organizations are committed to working together, every pharmacist stands to benefit, whether a member of the organizations or not. As Abramowitz said to the House of Delegates, "This is a great time to be a pharmacist." I agree.
