Pharmacy Heroes: Technician Helps Keep Colleagues Safe During COVID-19 Outbreak

Katie Turner, CPhT, is a senior pharmacy technician at Walgreens. Her colleague Jennifer Sorro, PharmD, described Turner as “a lifesaver,” helping to protect pharmacy staff during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“She makes sure our staff has sanitizing products available, masks, gloves, and makes sure that stations are getting sanitized frequently,” Sorro said in a message to Pharmacy Times^®.

In addition to making sure surfaces are clean and staff have what they need, Sorro said Turner has asked her mother, a nurse practitioner, for advice on immune-boosting vitamins for the staff. During the chaotic last few weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sorro said Turner has made sure everything gets done in the pharmacy.

“She comes in early, comes in on her off days when people call out, and stays late to make sure we are all OK,” Sorro said.
