NCPA Congratulates Buddy Carter on Victory in Georgia Congressional Runoff

PRESS RELEASE

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (July 23, 2014) — State Senator Buddy Carter, a Georgia community pharmacist and member of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), prevailed in a runoff election Tuesday, July 22 to become the Republican nominee in the Peach State’s 1st Congressional District. Carter becomes the heavy favorite to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in the November election to succeed Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) as the district is considered “safe Republican” by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

In response NCPA CEO B. Douglas Hoey, RPh, MBA issued the following statement:

“Congratulations to Buddy Carter on a hard-fought victory. Buddy received more votes than any other candidate in the crowded, six-way primary contest May 20 and he followed that up with a strong campaign to win the runoff contest. NCPA was proud to support his candidacy every step of the way. We commend the community pharmacists in Georgia who campaigned on Buddy’s behalf as well as those pharmacists from across the country who also supported his campaign.

“If he wins in November, Buddy would become the first pharmacist to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives since the retirement of former Rep. Marion Berry (D-Ark.) in 2011. It is a pivotal time in the pharmacy profession, so now more than ever Congress would benefit from having a pharmacist like Buddy among its ranks once again. Moreover, patients would benefit as well as pharmacists become more fully utilized in the U.S. health care system. NCPA will continue to support Buddy’s campaign down the home stretch.”
