Five NACDS Chain member companies conducted a total of six Congressional pharmacy tours over the past week, bringing the total number of NACDS RxIMPACT in-district events to 78 for 2014. The grassroots advocacy program also posted its 16th and 17th continuing education training sessions as part of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting.
Among Congressional pharmacy tours, U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) toured a Westminster, MD Giant, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) toured a Lavernia, TX HEB Pharmacy and U.S. Rep. Lynne Jenkins (R-KS), a member of the House Ways & Means Committee, met with Hy-Vee at the Jenkins' Topeka, KS District Office. Also, the district director for U.S. Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) toured a Rogers, AR Walmart, the district director for U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) toured a Gilbert, AZ Walmart, and the deputy district director for U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland (R-FL) toured a Tallahassee, FL Walgreens.
The CE training programs in Tennessee educated pharmacists and students about the power of effective constituent communications to influence the policymaking process.
