Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education Hosts Live Law WebinarLive webinar brings the expertise of pharmacy law professor Joseph L. Fink, III, BSPharm, JD, into a global classroom setting.

PLAINSBORO, NJ (August 2, 2010)—The Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education recently held its first live law webinar, “Contemporary Issues in the Pharmacist’s Professional Liability.”

Moderated by Pharmacy Times contributor Joseph L. Fink, III, BSPharm, JD, professor of pharmacy law at the University of Kentucky, this interactive live session reviewed the legal concept of liability and highlighted strategies pharmacists can use to manage their risk of involvement in a malpractice lawsuit. The lecture was held online July 8, 2010, and is now available as a 1-credit “enduring webinar” at http://phrmcyt.ms/9jgWaH.

“The issue of professional liability is one that concerns every pharmacist,” said Mike Hennessy, Chairman and CEO of MJH & Associates, the publisher of Pharmacy Times. Beyond financial damages, professional liability claims have the potential to injure a pharmacist’s professional reputation. “We want to give pharmacists the tools they need to protect themselves and their careers in today’s health care environment,” Hennessy added.

With Fink’s expert guidance, attendees gained the knowledge necessary to understand the elements of a malpractice claim, explain why damages can be a challenge for the plaintiff to establish, and examine the implications of 2 recent developments that have led to increasing concerns about professional liability exposure among pharmacists.

A new offering from the Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education, the live webinar format used a combination of video, audio, and slides to bring Fink’s lecture to life in a global classroom setting. A question-and-answer session following the webinar allowed pharmacists from a range of practice settings and locations to apply concepts explored in the lesson to practical scenarios from their own workplaces.

“Offering the course as a live webinar was an ideal way to recreate the collaborative learning experience of a classroom while reaching a diverse audience of pharmacists,” said Judy V. Lum, executive director of education for Pharmacy Times.
