Indian Pharma Executive Satyanarayana Chava Named to USP Board of Trustees

PRESS RELEASE

October 17, 2016, Rockville, Md. — The United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) has named Satyanarayana Chava, Ph.D., founder and chief executive officer of Hyderabad-based Laurus Labs Limited to its Board of Trustees.

“USP is honored and proud to have Dr. Chava join as a member of our Board,” said Ron T. Piervincenzi, USP’s chief executive officer. “As the head of a leading Indian pharmaceutical company that provides pharmaceutical ingredients worldwide, Dr. Chava will bring a broad global view of the generics market and insights from outside of the U.S. that will complement perspectives of existing Board members with experience in the U.S. originator pharmaceutical sector. Like USP, Dr. Chava believes that all patients are entitled to access to high quality medicines, regardless of where they live.”

One of the fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in India today, Laurus is a major manufacturer of anti-retroviral active pharmaceutical ingredients. Since 2014, Dr. Chava has also served as chairman of Laurus Infosystems (India) Private Ltd., a software product development and service provider for life sciences and mobile technology companies. Under Dr. Chava’s leadership, Laurus has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to producing consistently high quality drugs for all the markets it serves.

Prior to founding Laurus, Dr. Chava was the chief operating officer and led R&D and innovation teams at Matrix, which was acquired by Mylan in 2006. Earlier in his career, he was also a research scientist at Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, having worked on several commercially successful anti-bacterial drugs.

Dr. Chava received a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. (both in organic chemistry) from Andhra University in Visakhapatnam, India. He also completed the Executive Management Program at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad. Among his recognitions and accomplishments are an honorary Doctorate in Science from the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (popularly known as GITAM University) in Visakhapatnam and a Business Leader Award from TV5, Hyderabad. Dr. Chava appeared on the cover of Forbes India, as part of the magazine’s Hidden Gems 2015 series.

Laurus has been a longtime neighbor of USP’s site in India, also residing in the ICI Knowledge Park in Hyderabad.
