As the McKesson IdeaShare 2019 conference opens next week in Orlando, Pharmacy Times will be on location to deliver coverage.

Over 2000 independent pharmacy owners, pharmacists, technicians, and others will meet June 26-30, 2019 to connect and share expertise for strengthening their businesses. Informational sessions during the 5 days will cover everything from technology’s influence on medication adherence to integrated clinical programs.

Trumm Drug, serving southwest Minnesota, will be awarded the Health Mart Pharmacy of the Year Award during the conference to honor their clinical performance, high-touch patient relationships, and proactive advocacy efforts. Stay tuned for an interview with Chris Cella, VP of RxOwnership, on how Trumm Drug’s change in ownership in 2018 affected their business.

In addition to the award coverage, here are some other sessions you will be able to watch for in our coverage at this year’s IdeaShare:

  • Beyond Prescriptions: Working Up Patients in Need of OTC and DME Recommendations—This session will help pharmacists learn to identify key counseling practices for patients in search of solutions to common conditions or problems with over-the-counter medications or durable medical equipment. Practices will include how to triage a patient in search of an over-the-counter (OTC) product and how to assess a patient’s clinical presentation to determine the appropriate treatment.
  • Public Policy Forum: Those D*MN DIR Fees!—A panel of experts will discuss the inner workings of direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fees, followed by a town hall-style discussion on DIR fees’ impact and how pharmacists can combat them.
  • What You Can Do! How Community Pharmacy Solves Prescriber and Patient Needs—This session will examine how community pharmacies can implement and leverage skills and abilities to meet patient and prescriber needs. Pharmacies can support patient quality by establishing initiatives such as fall prevention programs and community antibiotic stewardship programs.
