Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association to Host Upcoming Policy Summit

The Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) is hosting the HOPA Policy Summit on Drug Waste in the Treatment of Cancer with health care professionals and industry members. The summit will address drug waste in cancer care and identify ways to reduce the burden of drug waste on the US health care system. The summit will take place on May 8 at the National Press Club in Washington DC, according to a press release.¹

HOPA is a nonprofit professional organization that supports research, conducts educational conferences, encourages professional development, and advocates for health policy issues that improve patient care. The organization includes more than 2700 members, including oncology pharmacists, pharmacy interns, residents, technicians, researchers, and administrators.

The summit will bring together leaders in the field of hematology/oncology pharmacy representing health care professional associations, patient advocacy groups, government agencies, public policy professionals, legislators, payers and members of the insurance industry, pharmaceutical manufacturers, closed-system transfer device manufacturers, drug wholesalers/distributors, specialty pharmacies, and the press.

Presentations and panel discussions will be taking place throughout the day, with several highlights including Dr. Peter Bach, director at the Center for Health Policy Outcomes at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, delivering the keynote speech. A session on The Patient Care Impact of Drug Waste and a panel discussion on the financial impact of drug waste on health care facilities and patients will also be held.
