Camber has launched mesalamine suppositories in 30-count blister packs, with the 1000-mg doses indicated to treat mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a very common condition in the United States, affecting up to 1 in 250 individuals and causing long-lasting inflammation and ulcers in the digestive tract. Mesalamine has been shown in clinical trials to induce both clinical response and remission and to have few serious adverse effects.

CIPROFLOXACIN AND DEXAMETHASONE OTIC SUSPENSION

In the first generic of Bayer’s Ciprodex, Dr. Reddy’s has launched ciprofloxacin 0.3% and dexamethasone 0.1% otic suspension, indicated to treat acute otitis externa (AOE) in adults and children and acute otitis media (AOM) in pediatric patients. Both AOE and AOM can be caused by bacterial infections, which ciprofloxacin heals by stopping the growth of harmful bacteria. The Ciprodex brand had a market value of about $453 million for the 12 months ending in June 2020, according to a company statement.

ZILEUTON EXTENDED RELEASE TABLETS

Indicated for the chronic and prophylactic treatment of asthma in adults and children aged 12 years and older, Lupin’s new zileuton extended-release tablets are available in a dosage strength of 600 mg. Zileuton is not indicated for the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks, though therapy with zileuton can be continued during acute exacerbations of asthma. The most common adverse effects include nausea, pharyngolaryngeal pain, and sinusitis.

MIDODRINE HYDROCHLORIDE TABLETS

The FDA recently gave Aurobindo the green light for generic midodrine hydrochloride tablets in dosage strengths of 2.5, 5, and 10 mg. The tablets are indicated for the treatment of symptomatic orthostatic hypotension, defined as a systolic blood pressure decrease of at least 20 mm Hg or a diastolic blood pressure decrease of at least 10 mm Hg within 3 minutes of standing. Midodrine should be used in patients whose lives are considerably impaired by the condition, despite fluid expansion, lifestyle alterations, and the use of nonpharmacologic treatments.
