Expert: Pharmacists Can Find Solutions for Overspending Driven by Dose-Specific Packaging

Pharmacists are essential partners in solving overspending caused by dose-specific packaging of lenvatinib.

In part 2 of a conversation with Emeline Aviki, MD, as part of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology 2022 Annual Meeting on Women's Cancer, Aviki said pharmacists are essential partners in solving overspending caused by dose-specific packaging of lenvatinib.

Although dose-specific packaging is believed to improve medication adherence, Aviki said there are other ways to achieve this. For instance, pharmacy teams could help patients organize their medications into weekly pill organizers at the pharmacy, or could reach out frequently to verify that patients are adherent. Dose exchange programs could also be developed by manufacturers, which would allow patients to exchange unused doses when receiving their new prescription.
