Expert: Focus On the Facts When Educating Patients With Vaccine Hesitancy

Although many patients are hesitant about the COVID-19 vaccines, Humphreys said pharmacists are perfectly positioned to provide education.

In the second part of her interview with Pharmacy Times, Sophia Humphreys, PharmD, MHA, director of pharmacy clinical services at Providence St. Joseph Health, discussed how the pause of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine last month could impact wider vaccination trends and vaccine hesitancy.

Although many patients are hesitant about the COVID-19 vaccines, Humphreys said pharmacists are perfectly positioned to provide education. She said it is important to focus on the known facts about the vaccines, including the fact that cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis with thrombocytopenia have been found in just 15 vaccine recipients out of almost 8 million.
