May 16, 2014, Arlington, Va. — Demonstrating its commitment to providing high-caliber, diverse leaders in its event programming, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) announced today that Dr. Bernanke, chairman, The Federal Reserve System (2006-2014) will address the NACDS Total Store Expo during the morning Business Program on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Mass.
“When you think about who’s best to forecast the nation’s economic and business climate, Dr. Bernanke is hands-down the leading authority,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “During his time as chairman of the Federal Reserve, Dr. Bernanke’s financial expertise has led the nation through some of its most challenging financial times, and as our industry continues to evolve and change, we look forward to listening to and learning from his experiences.

Dr. Bernanke served two terms as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2006 to 2014. Before his appointment as chairman, Dr. Bernanke served as chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers (2005-2006). He also served in several other roles within the Federal Reserve System, including a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (2002-2005). Currently, Dr. Bernanke is a Distinguished Fellow in Residence at The Brookings Institution.
Prior to his government service, Dr. Bernanke demonstrated leadership in academia. From 1994 to 1996, Dr. Bernanke was the Class of 1926 Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University. He was the Howard Harrison and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Economics and Public Affairs and chair of the Economics Department at the university from 1996 to 2002.
In addition to his nearly two decades at Princeton University, Dr. Bernanke also taught economics at Stanford University (1979-1985), as well as New York University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Bernanke has published many articles on a wide variety of economic issues, including monetary policy and macroeconomics, and he is the author of several scholarly books and two textbooks. He has held a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Sloan Fellowship, and he is a fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In July 2001, he was appointed editor of the American Economic Review.
Born in Augusta, Georgia, Dr. Bernanke grew up in Dillon, South Carolina. He received his B.A. in economics from Harvard University in 1975, graduating summa cum laude, and his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1979.
