CARY, N.C. (June 29, 2017) —Biologics, Inc., a McKesson Specialty Health oncology pharmacy services company, has achieved Specialty Pharmacy accreditation from URAC, the healthcare industry’s leading certification and accreditation organization that evaluates quality standards. The independent non-profit organization promotes quality by ensuring specialty pharmacies and other types of healthcare organizations meet strict industry standards for safety, quality and other core criteria. By earning the coveted URAC seal of approval, Biologics has demonstrated its strong commitment to high-quality patient-centric care, process improvement and better patient outcomes.
“We are excited to receive URAC accreditation, as it strengthens our profile as an industry leader and demonstrates our commitment to excellence in serving patients, as well as providers, payers and manufacturers,” said Dan Duffy, vice president and general manager, Specialty Pharmacy Solutions, McKesson Specialty Health. “Biologics plays a critical role in the care team, closely collaborating with providers to help patients achieve the best possible outcome through individualized care plans and support to ensure medication adherence. URAC accreditation verifies the value we provide in delivering these highly specialized clinical services.”
Achieving URAC accreditation is a rigorous process that consists of a two-part review. URAC thoroughly examines the specialty pharmacy’s documents related to policies and procedures to make sure industry best practices are being used. The second phase involves a validation review conducted on-site by URAC’s reviewers to determine the organization is indeed operating in accordance with URAC’s standards. These benchmarks and standards are based on input from independent advisory committees comprised of experts in the delivery of quality healthcare. They are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure they remain current and relevant to industry best practices.
As value-based care continues to gain widespread acceptance, payers and manufacturers are recognizing the value of third-party accreditation for specialty pharmacies, as it verifies their commitment to quality care, patient safety and monitoring, cost control, patient communications and proper utilization of services.1 Accreditation also drives continual improvement and ongoing updating of current best practices, enhancing operations and services that can lead to cost savings, better care and improved patient outcomes.2
“It is an honor to earn URAC accreditation, as it acknowledges not only our commitment to industry best practices, but also recognizes the high level of dedication and proficiency demonstrated by our employees,” said Tamara Hart, vice president, Specialty Pharmacy Services, McKesson Specialty Health. “It is very rewarding to know our efforts are being recognized. We are extremely grateful to our highly-skilled, compassionate staff for the care and concern they show every day to the patients, providers and payers we serve.”
