PRESS RELEASE
More Detailed Information on Compatibility, Stability, and End-Use Dating Offered
10/14/2014
ASHP has released the 18th edition of its newly updated Handbook on Injectable Drugs™. With its 38-year track record, the Handbook is considered the “Gold Standard” for translating thorough, complex data on parenteral drugs into an essential resource that is easily accessible to busy practitioners worldwide for practical patient-care applications. New monographs have been added and approximately half of the 338 monographs in the new edition have been revised and enhanced, including expanded references.
“ASHP realizes that today’s pharmacists need timely access to complete stability and compatibility information,” says Carol Wolfe, ASHP Vice President, Publications and Drug Information Systems. “The Handbook now includes more specific references to research that has been conducted by drug manufacturers, as well as pertinent study details supplied by authors of published primary literature.”
In addition to the print book, the Interactive Handbook on Injectable Drugs is available online and as an app for iOS and Android. The interactive versions feature a multiple drug search function that allows users to simultaneously check an unlimited number of medications for two-drug combination compatibility.
All interactive formats have been enhanced in this edition—new features include quarterly electronic updates, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) MedWatch notices, drug shortage notifications, and wall-chart custom views of compatibility data.
Also new to the digital versions are concisely formatted beyond-use dating recommendations for parenteral drugs and nutritional solutions from ASHP’s Extended Stability for Parenteral Drugs by Caryn Bing and Anna Nowobilski-Vasilios. This extended stability information is specifically designed for use in home and other infusion practices.
