ASHP Presents John W. Webb Lecture Award

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has awarded Scott J. Knoer, Pharm.D., M.S., FASHP, with its John W. Webb Lecture Award.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has awarded Scott J. Knoer, PharmD, MS, FASHP, with its John W. Webb Lecture Award. Knoer is the Chief Pharmacy Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, where he leads an international pharmacy enterprise with a $1.1 billion drug budget, 1410 full-time employees, and 18 hospitals, with facilities in Ohio, Florida, Nevada, Toronto, London, and Abu Dhabi.

The John W. Webb Lecture Award honors pharmacy practitioners or educators who stand apart from others because of their extraordinary dedication to fostering excellence in pharmacy management and leadership. Knoer presented his award lecture during the during the ASHP Conference for Pharmacy Leaders.

Knoer began his career as operations manager at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He was director of pharmacy at the University of Minnesota Medical Center for 10 years before assuming his current position in 2011.

As an advocate for patients and the profession of pharmacy, Knoer has successfully lobbied the Ohio and Minnesota boards of pharmacy to allow the advancement of pharmacy practice and was instrumental in state and federal initiatives to reduce the impact of drug shortages. In 2017, he was a corecipient of the ASHP Board of Directors’ Award of Excellence for his work raising awareness of drug price increases among policymakers and the public.

Knoer is active in local, state, and national pharmacy organizations. As the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy Contributing Editor for Pharmacy Practice Management, he created and coordinates the Chief Pharmacist Officer Perspectives column. He is a past chair of the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers, and is the vice-chair of the Vizient Pharmacy Council (formerly the University Health‐System Consortium).

Knoer has published extensively on a wide variety of pharmacy and leadership topics, and is a frequent presenter to state, national and international audiences in the United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Italy, China and Japan.
