- An interview with Becky Davis, principal of Charles River Associates, on her presentation “GLP-1s: Riding the Wave of Innovative Medications,” being presented on April 30 at 2:00 PM PT. Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have gained indications for a variety of conditions, including cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. In her presentation, Davis is set to highlight how payers can approach coverage and what the future of the treatment category may hold. Pharmacy Times will discuss with Davis how she anticipates the management of GLP-1s will evolve with future indications and the role of pharmacists in managing patients using GLP-1s.
- Pharmacy Times will cover one of the general sessions at Asembia AXS25, “The Evolving Role of the Pharmacist,” taking place on April 29 at 9:10 AM PT. Shea Hudson, chief operating officer of Optum Pharmacies at Optum Rx, plans to discuss the rapidly evolving role of pharmacists in health care, as they now provide services that extend past traditional prescribing roles for patients with difficult-to-treat conditions. Hudson will explain how new tools for data collection and patient analysis are poised to change how pharmacists can provide value to patients.
- Fran Gregory, vice president of emerging therapies at Cardinal Health, will sit down with Pharmacy Times to discuss the state of cell and gene therapies in specialty pharmacy as part of her presentation, “Cell, Gene, and Beyond: What’s Working and Where Do We Go Next,” on April 29 at 1:00 PM OT. Gregory will address how specialty pharmacies can address the most critical reimbursement and market access challenges that currently face cell and gene therapies and the key considerations that will shape investment and patient access.
- At the “Specialty Pharmacy Access in the Community” presentation, a quartet of Walmart Specialty Pharmacy experts—Kevin Barton, Rod Thornton, Lisa Thornton, and Kassem Elhelou—will explain how community pharmacists are expanding their role as a collaborative member of the primary care model. Community pharmacists can provide services that allow for other members of the patient care team to better execute their own responsibilities, and the Walmart panel plans to discuss how specialty pharmacy can be better integrated into community practice. Pharmacy Times will be covering the session, taking place on April 28 at 2:00 PM PT.
- In an interview with Pharmacy Times, Shawn Griffin, president and CEO of URAC, will discuss his session “Advancing Health Equity in Specialty Pharmacy Care,” taking place April 29 at 1:00 PM PT. Griffin will discuss the importance of leadership in any specialty pharmacy program and how pharmacists can provide equitable services to their patients.
