AmerisourceBergen acquires World Courier Group, Inc, and expands its international market reach for specialty medications.

AmerisourceBergen recently agreed to pay $520 million in cash to buy World Courier Group, Inc, a private company that is focused on helping pharmaceutical companies test complex treatments.

The acquisition of this company will help AmerisourceBergen launch and commercialize specialty products. The World Courier Group helps biopharmaceutical companies with transportation, storage and distribution services for clinical trials, according to The Wall Street Journal, and may give AmerisourceBergen an edge when it comes to transitioning medications from the clinical trial phase to the market.

Other deals recently completed by AmerisourceBergen include the purchase of CVS Caremark Corp's TheraCom LLC unit, and a small deal to buy IntrinsiQ, which helps community oncologists make patient care decisions.

“Our shared values and similar cultures will ensure the smooth integration of our premium services, which will help both of our organizations take advantage of the tremendous growth opportunities that lie ahead, particularly in international markets,” said Wayne B. Heyland, World Courier's president. “We are very excited to become an integral part of the largest specialty distribution and services provider in the world.”
