The holidays are just around the corner, but that’s not the only exciting thing about this time of year. ASHP’s 2016 Midyear Clinical Meeting has kicked off, and Pharmacy Times is on site covering it. At this largest gathering of clinical pharmacists in the world, there will be plenty of opportunities to dive into a number of informative sessions covering everything from patient care to medication safety, and more.
Don’t worry if you won’t be attending, because Pharmacy Times® has it covered. Here are 5 sessions to watch for in our coverage at this year’s meeting:
This session is a must-see for pharmacists seeking relevant topics on diabetes treatments. Highlights include information on evaluating therapeutic use of new insulin products and constructing an insulin regimen using new insulin products for specific patient cases. The session will also cover the process for implementing a multimodal dosing pharmacy protocol and converting patients with diabetes to a multimodal insulin regimen.
Interested in medication safety practices? This session will identify the top 5 most important medication safety issues reported to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), and will provide pharmacists with effective strategies to reduce medication errors.
3. FDA Update 2016: Public Health and Regulatory Initiatives Impacting Today’s Practice
Learn more key information on 2016 FDA initiatives and goals, along with the FDA’s Division of Drug Information’s role in public health and the potential impact of these initiatives on pharmacists and their practices.
4. Balancing Act: Managing Bleeding and Thrombosis with Direct Oral Anticoagulants
What are the pros and cons of using a direct antidote or concentrated clotting factor to manage bleeding in a patient on a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC)? The session will focus on evaluating available options for reversing the effects of DOACs and how to determine common considerations when managing bleeding in a patient receiving anticoagulation therapy.
5. Antimicrobial Stewardship for All: What You Need to Know
How is antimicrobial stewardship practiced and what are the emerging trends in antimicrobial resistance? This session will discuss antimicrobial resistance and the implications for antimicrobial drug use in health care facilities, along with identifying methods for surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and opportunities for improvement.
The conference will be taking place December 4-8, so be sure to watch for Pharmacy Times’ ASHP conference dailies and coverage on social media. Complete coverage can be found here: www.pharmacytimes.com/conferences/ashp-midyear-2016.
