2015 Military Pharmacist of the Year Finalists

US Army Health Center

Vicenza, Italy

MAJ David Delgado is a pharmacist at the US Army Health Center in Vicenza, Italy. “The ability to accomplish numerous complex missions, with relative ease and impressive results, is commonplace for this extraordinarily talented pharmacist,” his nominator wrote.

Greatest Achievements

I graduated at the top of my class as valedictorian of Georgia Military College in 2004, but being happily married to Ms. Jillian Marie Delgado since 2008 is by far my greatest success.

Source of Inspiration

There is no doubt that our profession helped guide me to be successful in my 2 years as commander. This opportunity opened up my eyes to a side of the Army rarely seen by a pharmacist and will certainly pave the road for future pharmacy leaders to serve in other demanding positions.

Personal Philosophy

I am humbled to serve as a military pharmacist for the men and women who serve our country and have served our country, and the family members that support these heroes.

Vision for Pharmacy

I expect that the role of a pharmacist will broaden through specialization that emphasizes on patient care at different levels of care.

Hill Air Force Base

Layton, UT

MAJ David Jarnot is the pharmacy flight commander at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, Utah. “Major David Jarnot has embraced the opportunities provided by his service in the USAF to provide true world-class pharmacy care to our nation’s active duty, retirees, and family members,” his nominator wrote.

Greatest Achievements

Building the PharmD clinical service at Hill AFB from 1 clinical service and 84 patient appointments in 2012 to 15 clinical services and 9600 appointments in 2015.

Source of Inspiration

Over the last 18 years, I have gained inspiration from the pharmacy leaders I’ve come to know and respect. Too many to name, they have all had a profound impact on my career and aspirations as a pharmacist.

Personal Philosophy

Have a clear leadership vision and make sure it is communicated, take care of your people, and be the hardest working person in the organization.

Vision for Pharmacy

Pharmacists recognized nationally as patient care providers, able to bill for the full scope of services, and established as a key tenet in patient-centered medical care.

Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune

Camp Lejeune, NC

L T Nathan Magare is a pharmacist at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune. “LT Magare’s expertise, commendable innovations, and invaluable dedication to the mission far exceed all expectation,” his nominator wrote.

Greatest Achievements

Overcoming the many hardships that I faced as a youth growing up in Kenya. Through extraordinary hard work and perseverance, I was able to migrate to the United States and enlist in the Navy.

Source of Inspiration

I always want to represent the less fortunate and underprivileged children of my country in the most positive and uplifting ways possible.

Personal Philosophy

Applying myself to the fullest in everything that I do and having fun as I do it. People rarely succeed, especially in more challenging tasks, unless they are committed and believe in the value of their efforts.

Vision for Pharmacy

My vision is to see the continual emphasis on the transition to patient-oriented clinical pharmacy services, as well as the continuous expansion of diversity in pharmacists’ day-to-day workload and greater responsibilities in medication therapy management and disease state management services.
