INDIAN FIRMS MUSCLING IN ON US MARKET

India?s bustling pharmaceutical industry is carving an increasingly noticeable niche in the generic drug market as big money prescription medicines lose patent protection in the United States. According to one recent analysis, 12 Indian drug manufacturers (including Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, Wockhardt, Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc, Dr Reddy?s Laboratories Ltd, and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd) have managed to snag almost 25% of all US generic drug approvals issued by the FDA during the first 4.5 months of 2007. During the same period last year, Indian firms accounted for less than 17% of US generic drug approvals.
