E-Prescribing Available for Gold Standard Customers

Gold Standard, a developer of drug information databases, software, and clinical information solutions, has been recognized as a SureScripts Certified Solutions Provider. The recognition allows users of Gold Standard's eMPOWERx patient care system to electronically access and conduct 2-way communications with US pharmacies connected to the SureScripts network, including transmitting new prescriptions and authorizing refills.

Gold Standard's eMPOWERx application integrates preferred drug lists and the company's clinical pharmacology drug information and interaction screening tools in real-time, patient-specific medication histories. With Gold Standard's electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) module connected to SureScripts Messenger Services, providers electronically transmit new prescriptions and expedite renewals.

"We believe that improving the flow of information between the physician and pharmacist represents a tremendous opportunity to positively impact patient care," said Russ Thomas, chief executive officer of Gold Standard.

Experts believe that e-prescribing will help transform the medication process. A recent House subcommittee heard testimony that e-prescribing could improve patient care, boost efficiency, and save as much as $27 billion in health care costs because of fewer medication errors and reduced duplication.
