Statins Help in Stroke Recovery

Stroke patients may benefit from taking statins, concluded the authors of a study reported in BMC Medicine (March 23, 2004). The researchers observed 433 ischemic stroke patients admitted to the US National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Program at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. Their study showed that 51% of the patients taking statins when admitted to the hospital were discharged with no major disability, compared with 38% of those not taking statins on arrival at the hospital.
