The National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA) recently announced a new, accredited standard for pharmacy technician continuing education (CE), through its relationship with the Accreditation Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE), an independent agency that accredits providers of continuing pharmacy education.
"This is a major development in the evolution and standardization of pharmacy technicians," stated Mike Johnston, CPhT, executive director of NPTA. "For the past several years, the leadership of our organization has focused on the issue of standardizing CE for pharmacy technicians and ensuring the highest standards in quality. Our relationship with ACPE has evolved into the perfect solution."
By working directly with ACPE, NPTA will be fully complying with ACPE's established Quality Criteria Guidelines for future continuing pharmacy educations developed. Neither ACPE nor NPTA has established a new set of standards for CE providers.
In its commitment to the education of pharmacy technicians, NPTA has developed a trademark logo identifying that the target audience for NPTA programs will be pharmacy technicians. This logo was developed to help both technicians and pharmacists to easily identify the target audience for NPTA programs. The association will be using the ACPE logo only as permitted for all accredited providers.
