Irritable Bowel Syndrome Public Education Campaign Under Way

Talk IBS is a nationwide public education initiative designed to educate people about the symptoms and management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and to facilitate informed communication between those with symptoms of IBS and their physicians to aid the diagnosis process. Talk IBS was sparked by the findings of Irritable Bowel Syndrome in Women: The Unmet Needs, a new report from the Society for Women?s Health Research (SWHR). The report indicates that IBS symptoms significantly impact the physical, social, and emotional well-being of IBS sufferers.

The aim of the Talk IBS campaign is to reduce the time it takes for proper diagnosis by providing tools, such as a self-assessment questionnaire, an informational IBS brochure, and a comprehensive Web site, to equip sufferers with information to enhance a dialogue with their health care professionals. Talk IBS materials, as well as the SWHR publication, are available by visiting www.talk-ibs.com or by calling 86-News-4-IBS.
